Ground Floor Gallery presents “Portal,” our third annual exhibition celebrating Gowanus Open Studios (October 14th – 16th, 2016) and the vibrant community of artists that have contributed to the evolution of this complex neighborhood of makers over the past twenty plus years.

“Portal” will provide a glimpse of the contemporary art landscape in the Gowanus area through the lens of five emerging artists who have been living and/or working in the shadow of the infamous Canal that has come to define this ever-changing industrial enclave.

As active participants in the Gowanus arts community, Ground Floor Gallery owners, Jill Benson & Krista Scenna, conceived of the exhibition after meeting most of the artists during past Gowanus Open Studios weekends.  “Portal” is  the culmination of these studio visits and the subsequent conversations that provided a window into these artists’ mixed-media practices.
