In physics, String Theory describes how strings of individual particles propagate through space and interact with each other. The strings vibrate and create gravitational force. It is this natural force to create that drives these dynamic, mixed-media artists to weave, knit, crochet and sculpt their ideas into cohesion. Primarily using textiles, the artists weave new narratives from raw and found materials.
Antonia Perez uses found materials, such as discarded plastic bags, to crochet new meaning from other people’s trash. The results raise awareness of our society’s penchant towards producing unnecessary waste.
Beka Goedde is a sculptor and a printmaker. She explores how all things – living and inert – are in a constant state of motion. Her sculptures in this exhibition appear to leap from the wall.
Eliza Stamps uses rope as her medium to extend her drawings into three dimensions. Encasing granite in rope, the strong natural rock becomes protected by the rope, much like our natural resources are increasingly in need of protection.
Victoria Manganiello creates textile paintings using materials she makes herself from natural ingredients. She spins her own yarn, mixes her own dyes, and and then weaves her own canvas.
